Apple is shaking things up in a big way at next week’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). They’re rolling out a brand-new Passwords app and teaming up with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into the iPhone, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
First off, Apple is launching a dedicated Passwords app. If you’ve been using iCloud Keychain to manage your passwords, this new app is going to make your life even easier. It’s designed to sync your passwords across all your Apple devices, plus Windows PCs. (Sorry, Android users, you’re out of luck for now.)
The app organizes your logins into different categories like accounts, Wi-Fi networks, and passkeys. So, no more scrolling through a long list to find what you need. It also offers autofill for usernames and passwords and can generate authentication codes, just like Google Authenticator.
This is Apple’s answer to popular password managers like LastPass and 1Password, and it’s looking pretty promising.
Partnering with OpenAI for ChatGPT
The real showstopper, though, is Apple’s partnership with OpenAI. They’re bringing ChatGPT to the iPhone’s operating system. This is a huge move for Apple, which has been playing catch-up in the AI race.
OpenAI gets access to millions of Apple users who might have been hesitant to try ChatGPT. Meanwhile, Apple gets to enhance its services with cutting-edge AI technology. Siri, for example, is set to get a major upgrade, making it smarter and more helpful.
Why OpenAI and not Google? Apple got better business terms from OpenAI, and they believe ChatGPT is the best on the market. Plus, partnering with Google might have made Apple look like they were trailing behind their biggest competitor.
Apple has been quietly working on its AI capabilities for a while now. They’ve developed a framework called Ajax and are packing the latest iOS with as much AI as possible. This includes features like voice memo transcriptions, photo editing, enhanced search in Safari, and auto-replies in Messages.

Apple’s WWDC keynote on June 10th, delivered by CEO Tim Cook, is set to be one of their most significant in years. With revenue declining, Apple needs to show it can thrive in the AI era. The Passwords app and the partnership with OpenAI are key parts of that strategy.
The new AI features will be opt-in, so you can choose whether to use them. Apple is clearly focused on making these innovations as user-friendly and secure as possible.
