With the announcement of the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM out of the way, we can look forward to what Canon has planned next for the EOS R lineup.

EOS R System

Canon EOS R100

The Canon EOS R100 seems to be the camera that is most likely to be announced next from Canon. It will take on the form factor of the EOS M lineup and sport an RF mount. If Canon is indeed moving on from EOS M, they will need to replace the form factor. The Canon EOS R10 doesn’t fill the void of a small ILC.

Canon EOS R1

Not a lot has been said about the Canon EOS R1 over the last 6 months or so, and we don’t expect anything of substance until well into 2023.

Canon EOS R5S

The unicorn of camera body rumors. A high-megapixel camera in the area of 100mp is highly sought after by many photographers. If this camera is coming, we’d expect it sometime in 2023.

Canon EOS R7 C

We don’t have any specifics, but we have been told that a cinema version of the aps-c shooter will be coming in 2023. The Canon EOS R5C has been well received by consumers, so it makes sense that Canon continues with “C” variants.

RF Lenses

The RF lens lineup seems to be the biggest focus of shooters, and we’re not surprised. The following lenses have been on our roadmap for a long time and we’re still waiting. So far, our roadmap has proven to be extremely accurate, only missing on some lens speeds.

  • Canon TS-R 14mm f/4L
  • Canon TS-R 24mm f/3.5L
  • Canon RF 10-24mm f/4L USM
  • Canon RF 18-45mm f/4-5.6 IS STM
  • Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L USM
  • Canon RF 500mm f/4L IS USM

Of those 6 lenses, the RF 18-45mm f/4-5.6 IS STM seems to be the least likely of happening.

The tilt-shift lenses have been long rumored to be the first of their kind with autofocus and would be quite welcomed alongside an EOS R5S.

A wide-angle L zoom is definitely needed, and we think that an RF 10-24mm f/4L will be announced in 2023.

We have a unicorn in lens rumors to go along with the EOS 5DS camera body, and that is the RF 35mm f/1.2L. We’re still waiting on wide angle L prime lenses from Canon, and we currently don’t know when we can expect the RF 35mm f/1.2L to be announced. A lot of rumored announcement timeframes have come and gone.

We also expect an RF 24mm f/1.4L some time and we are selfishly hoping for an RF 28mm f/1.4L.

Canon also needs to fill out the ‘big white’ lineup by addressing 300mm and 500mm. We’re hoping for an RF 300mm f/2.8L IS 1.4x, which would be a massive hit.

There are probably other lenses coming that haven’t appeared on our roadmap.

We’ll be touching on some other Canon product lines tomorrow.
