Canon’s Dominance in Compact Camera Market

By admin, on November 5th, 2024

Compact cameras are not outdated yet—Canon still sells the best! Recently, Japanese analyst firm BCN Retail (BCN+R), known for publishing statistical articles, published an article about compact camera market trends. It seems to be different from what we previously understood. Compact cameras still have a certain market share, and the landscape has changed significantly.

Since Casio exited the compact camera market, Nikon has also largely stopped developing related models. Sony and Fujifilm have also significantly reduced their product lineup, which has made many people worried about the future of compact cameras. And with smartphones constantly improving their imaging capabilities, this concern has intensified. But from the conclusions, the compact camera market is not obsolete—it still accounts for 60% of camera sales. Although the revenue share is small, it remains stable.

Among the top 5 manufacturers in September sales, Canon is still far ahead, with its PowerShot series and other models accounting for 31.1% of the market share. Fujifilm, which came in second, contributed 13.4% of the market share with its best-selling “instax mini Evo” (it seems that instant cameras are also included in compact cameras?). Kodak and Kenko Tokina, which came in third and fourth, are known for their value-for-money (or toy cameras), and they have also significantly changed the market. Ricoh, with its popular GR series, took fifth place, showing that there are still many loyal fans of the GR series, which has been around since the film era.
