7 Influencers On How They Stay Comfy & Stylish While Travelling

With many of us picking up our pre-pandemic travel plans and using this year as the opportunity to go abroad, you might want some refreshers on how to dress for all the planes, trains and automobiles.

Sure, it’s easy enough to throw on your trusty ol’ sweats for the journey but after what feels like years of wearing our matching sweatsuits to death, it can be fun to experiment with some not-so-monotonous travel ‘fits.

Where better to find inspiration than from our favourite fashion creators on the ‘gram? So behold: seven cute (yet stylish) travel outfit ideas for trips long-haul and short, plus an insight into where these content creators are travelling this year. Even better, we’ve packed in the products you can buy now to steal their style.

Jess Cheng

Printed sweats and jewellery

Want to stick to sweats but add a little glam? Stack on some of your favourite jewels. Just give yourself enough time at security, of course.

What’s your go-to travel look?

Jess: Oversized sweatpants, a tiny cropped tank top, massive headphones and as many gigantic chain necklaces that security will allow. I make it a game.

So, where are you travelling this year?

Ibiza, baby! And hopefully hitting some other sunny European destinations.

Ideal travel destination?

I’ve been itching to do the classic Route 66 road trip…but make it Crossroads.

Michelle Kundo @wearmichelletravels

Glam loungewear

We see your sweats and we’ll raise you their luxe counterparts. If you prefer to stick to what you know, take it one level up with a glam sweat top and matching trousers. Swap out Michelle’s heels for a pair of trainers and you’re airport ready.

Do you have any travel plans coming up?

Michelle: I’ll be going to Dominican Republic this summer and as long as it’s permitted, I’ll be doing Australia in December. I’ll also get some European city breaks in between in spring and summer.

What’s your go-to travel look?

Anything comfy, casual and stylish. Think a more luxe loungewear because we all need to get that airport pic, ha!

Katey Hayward

Skirt and biker jacket

Skirts are great for all climates; just add tights when needed and remove them as you please. Pair with a biker jacket like Katey does for an edgy yet practical travel ‘fit.

Do you have plans to travel anywhere this year?

Katey: Yes, we’re going on our first holiday as a family and I’m so excited!

What’s your favourite airport ‘fit?

I always stick to something comfy, especially for a long-haul flight. Hair tied up with a headscarf teamed with some cute sunglasses.

Rachael Adewunmi

Graphic tee and sliders

Sliders are the ultimate travel shoe – you’re basically wearing slippers. Go for a platform style like Rachael’s and layer up with a sweet graphic tee.

What’s your travel style usually like?

Rachael: Bold and colourful. Living in London, you sometimes don’t get to experiment with all your clothes or all the styles/aesthetics you desire to trial and so I use holidays as the opportunity to go all out with my fashion choices.

Where are you travelling this summer?

New York! And I am definitely collecting my best statement pieces for that trip over the next few months.

Sophie Butler @sophjbutler

Printed dress

Who said dresses weren’t made for travelling? Really, dresses are a great option because they’re not only chic, they’re also super comfortable and easy to manoeuvre when popping in a tiny plane toilet. Plus, once you’re off the plane you’re ready to go.

If you could go anywhere right now, where would it be?

Sophie: Would have to be Australia! I’ve always wanted to go for a couple of months – it would be a dream tour for me!

What’s your go-to airport look?

I’m not usually one to pick comfort over style but I feel when flights are involved you need a bit of compromise, right? So probably a cute maxi dress with a cosy cardigan.

Do you have plans to travel anywhere this spring/summer?

No travels just yet. Hopefully I’ll get a city break booked in but I’ve just moved to London so I’m looking forward to spending lots of fun summer days here.

Andrea Da Silva

Cargo trousers

ICYMI, cargos are back in style and they’re basically the perfect midpoint between jeans and sweats. It’s giving Kim Possible vibes and we’re here for it.

What’s your go-to travel look?

Andrea: A tracksuit to be honest. Comfort is key when travelling but it must be a good quality one with matching coat/jacket and trainers – I love colour coordination!

If you could go anywhere right now, where would it be?

I’m thinking of Paris and Germany so far. My family is in Germany and you can never go wrong with a trip to Paris.

Dela Fard

Jeans and an overcoat

Jeans aren’t always a go-to for comfort but there are tons of soft, sustainable denim options available that you actually wouldn’t mind sitting in for hours. Follow Dela’s lead with a pair of straight jeans, a white tee and overcoat for a minimalist look.

Where are you travelling to this year?

When it comes to travelling, I’m always that last-minute person to book. However I’m going to Sardinia at the end of May – and hopefully Greece, Croatia and Ibiza will follow for the rest of the summer.

What’s your go-to travel look?

A hoodie and trainers are always a must.
